Your Daily Experience as a Remote Support Engineer

As a Remote Support Engineer, you’ll step into a role that offers diversity and excitement. Your work involves:

  • Remote troubleshooting and performing necessary remote preventive work.
  • Taking first-line support requests through the CERTUS service management system (JIRA), solving malfunctions, and answering customer requests.
  • Performing periodic system remote checks and managing remote preventive work.
  • Collaborating with the Remote Support Team, Field Support Engineers, and contractors to find optimal solutions.
  • Escalating more complex and repetitive failures to the second line when necessary.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Is responsible for solving malfunctions reported in the JIRA system.
  • Is responsible for performing periodic system remote checks.
  • Prioritizes to carry out the work within agreements made.
  • Support the Field Support Engineers with more complex failures.
  • Consults with the “Remote Support Team” and the “Field Support Team” and possibly international and national contractors to arrive at the most optimal solutions.
  • Signals the state of maintenance of various installations and advises whether preventive replacement should take place.
  • Takes care of standard reports such as timesheets, KPI reporting, System checks schedules, and Customer performance reporting
  • Identify and exploit opportunities to improve current activities, processes and working methods.
  • Can solve the most common failures in 70% of all cases.
  • Is responsible for well-documented escalation to the 2nd line if necessary.
  • Participates in a 3-shift system and the associated stand-by duties, i.e., (morning, day, evening, and stand-by night & weekend).
  • Presence in our office in Sliedrecht (Netherlands) is required


OTHER

  • Is responsible for keeping the various installations up to date.
  • Coordinates remote with field service activities if necessary.
  • Is alert and escalates product quality issues if necessary.
  • Monitors repetitive failures and escalates them if necessary.
  • Provides accurate and regular status updates to the customer via the JIRA system.
  • Provide regular reporting on KPIs and system checks to customers.
  • Often works based on limited technical information.
  • Observes generally applicable and company-specific regulations, guidelines, and procedures regarding safety, quality, working conditions and environmental care and instructs and checks in these.
  • Is responsible for the “Tools Installation & Execution.”
  • Performs the necessary administrative work.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Work and think level: MBO education.
  • Preferably, electrical/mechanical training.
  • Equivalent knowledge to MTS(E).
  • VCA-vol certification.
  • Knowledge of embedded and industrial software.
  • Proficiency in MS operating systems and office applications.
  • Sound Network SW & HW knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Cloud SW & infrastructure.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in remote analysis and troubleshooting.

Description per characteristic

Complexity This function is aimed at the correct maintenance of installations and the correct handling of malfunctions. You are confronted with many (technical) sub-areas. Provides advice and instructions. Performs logging tasks. A high degree of accuracy is required. Time constraint occurs in connection with “Service Level Agreements” made.

Independence

Makes own time schedule based on the assigned work. Works within the applicable ISO, VCA and Working Conditions Guidelines. The level of problem varies and can require several years of experience in certain activities.

Risk of failure

Errors in judgment and other technical errors can lead to a considerable loss of time, loss of material and possibly also (permanent) defects in systems. Failure to resolve reported incidents in a timely manner can result in (economic) damage to the client. This also leads to significant financial consequences. Preventing (major) damage is usually based entirely on self-control. Especially the contacts with customers and suppliers must be very correct. Discretion may be required regarding, for example, warranty conditions, complaint patterns and applicable safety requirements.

Physical aspects

Mainly works indoors, in some cases work on location may be required in consultation with the “CSO”. Also works outside normal working hours (morning/evening/weekend).

Competencies

  • Competencies are determined and evaluated via a company-wide “skills matrix.”
  • A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required for this position.
